Geologist - CO2 (Finance)



Position Description

Kinder Morgan, Inc. is one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America. We own an interest in or operate approximately 84,000 miles of pipelines and over 150 terminals. Our pipelines transport natural gas, refined petroleum products, crude oil, condensate, CO 2 and other products, and our terminals trans load and store liquid commodities including petroleum products, ethanol and chemicals, and bulk products, including petroleum coke, metals and ores


Primary purpose:

  • This position is primarily responsible for identifying and developing carbon capture and storage (CCS) opportunities with focus in the Permian Basin and Gulf Coast. Additional projects around EOR development and analysis will also be possible on an as needed basis.

Essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Identify and develop geologic targets leading to successful project execution of CCS projects
  • Author regulatory documentation required for project approval of CCS projects
  • Work closely with engineering and geoscience support staff



Position Requirements

Education:

  • MS in geoscience with 10 years of oil and gas industry experience, or Ph.D. with relevant post-doctoral research history.

Experience / specific knowledge:
  • 10 plus years in the oil and gas and/or pipeline industry.

Certifications:
  • Professional Geologist license

Competencies, skills, and abilities:
  • Knowledge of Gulf Coast geology; Permian Basin experience desirable
  • Understanding of geological impacts of both carbon capture storage and EOR
  • Experience in business development and development geology
  • Ability to communicate and present complex topics to broad audience
  • Work closely with engineering and financial staff to develop economic projects
  • Ability to work independently as well as mentoring colleagues
  • Expert user of Petra geological software
  • Proficiency in Paradigm suite incorporating modeling, petrophysical and geophysical work flows
  • Proficient in English writing and presentation skills
  • Job level will be determined based on the successful candidates skills and qualifications

Physical demands:
  • Predominantly office environment with some travel to field operations and remote sites

Working conditions:
  • Primarily office. Working after hours, nights, weekends, holidays as needed

Supervisory responsibility:
  • N/A


Preferred education, experience, certifications, competencies, skills, and abilities: Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:
  • PH.D. degree in geology. Professional Geologist license.
  • Special projects as required
