Grocery Shift Lead (Wedge Linden Hills) (Transportation)



Purpose: To assist Grocery Management in keeping displays, coolers, and shelves fully stocked; maintaining clear, orderly work areas; and providing prompt, friendly customer service.



REPORTS TO: Grocery Manager



Essential Functions:


Performance management. Help coordinate and direct the work of the Grocery staff on the sales floor and in receiving. Assign cleaning duties, organizing backstock, and special projects to staff. Help staff set priorities for the shift. Help inform staff of changes in policies and procedures. Provide detailed, thorough co-worker evaluations as requested. Model excellent internal and external customer service and policy compliance to staff at all times.
Stocking. Pull short-date or low-quality items, record them on spoilage sheets, and dispose of them properly. Report missing or inaccurate shelf tags to Grocery management. Maintain over/short notification system. Build and maintain case stacks. Follow the priorities set by Grocery management.
Receiving. Check incoming product for quality, verify piece count, and notify buyers of discrepancies, quality problems, and over-shorts. Sign for deliveries with appropriate adjustments to invoices and communicate credits to vendor. File invoices. Rotate overstock into storage and update out-of-stock list. Help with unloading as needed.
Customer service. Assist customers with questions and offer suggestions for purchase in friendly, courteous manner. Respond knowledgeably to customer questions about co-op policies and products and refer customers to other employees/resources as needed. Stay up to date on new products and specials. Convey approachable presence on the sales floor.
Work area maintenance. Keep shoppers' supplies stocked (bags, pencils, twist-ties, etc.) Prepare storage areas for next day's deliveries and leave unfinished work in an organized manner with a note on the items and in the log book. Keep price-marking and case-cutting equipment in working order. Maintain cleanliness of sales floor, receiving, and storage areas by removing trash, cleaning, wiping surfaces, picking up, etc.
Communication and cooperation. Attend Grocery department meetings and communicate regularly with Grocery staff to ensure department cohesion and customer satisfaction. Read department log book at the beginning of every shift and ensure that pertinent information is entered in log book. Advise Grocery management immediately of equipment repair needs and any other issues that arise.
Inventory. Participate in quarterly inventory as directed.
Safety. Work in a safe manner, following safety procedures.
Perform other tasks as assigned by Grocery management.






QUALIFICATIONS:



Experience:


At least one year's experience with retail groceries and/or natural foods
At least 1 year's experience training retail employees, preferably grocery staff, formally or informally
Supervisory experience




Skills:


Demonstrated customer service skills, including ability to project friendly, outgoing presence
Demonstrated ability to sustain a strong focus on detail and maintain a prolonged commitment to tasks
Demonstrated ability to organize complex tasks for themselves and others
Demonstrated strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to give clear instructions
Demonstrated excellent listening skills
Demonstrated ability to work well with others in fast-paced team environment while juggling multiple priorities
Demonstrated ability to deal respectfully and calmly with challenging people and situations


· Demonstrated ability to work with customers and coworkers from diverse cultural backgrounds.

· Ability to work with TCCP to create an inclusive environment where all are welcomed.



Knowledge:


Knowledge of groceries and natural foods sufficient to educate customers about the product and ensure their happiness with their selections
Familiarity with retail security practices






ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


Ability to lift 50 lbs. repeatedly, occasionally more
Ability to work for extended periods under cold, wet conditions
Prolonged standing and walking on the sales floor
Frequent bending, twisting, stooping, and crouching
Ability to perform continuous fine work with hands, including with hazardous equipment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
