Configuration Manager/CAD Drafter (Finance)



CAD Drafter/Configuration Manager Position requires candidates to be U.S. person as defined in ITAR, 22CFR 120.15 (U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien Status) Amphenol Fiber Systems International (AFSI) is a full service fiber optic company specializing in the fabrication and manufacture of fiber optic connectivity products and systems. General Description: This is a cross-functional role, supporting 2 teams within the engineering department, workload and priorities will determine the day-to-day activities. To support the Computer-Aided Drafter and Detailer portion of the role, the candidate is responsible for creating drawings in the development of new products and the improvement of existing products. Develop and prepare designs, piece part and assembly drawings. For the Configuration Manager portion of the role, the candidate is responsible for maintaining accurate and current engineering documentation across AFSI's ERP and document control systems. As the primary owner of drawing/database integrity, this role ensures that all part, assembly, and BOM (Bill of Materials) data accurately reflect the latest engineering revisions. The Configuration Manager also manages Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), oversees documentation compliance to ISO 9001/AS9100 standards, and supports seamless transitions from design to production. This role requires strong attention to detail, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to drive process improvements in configuration control and document management. Essential Functions: Drawing & Document Creation: Customize and create detailed piece part drawings from engineering designs and layouts. Create assembly and product drawings. Work with 3-D modeling of new designs and layouts in Solid Works. Analyze required information from precedents, manufacturers' catalogs, and technical guides for dimensions, tolerances, and drafting standards and practices. Experience with drafting standards, symbols and nomenclature Maintain a working knowledge of geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Initiate and write engineering change notices. Update existing drawings. Drawing & Document Control: Maintain and control the AFSI drawing database. Release and archive new and revised engineering drawings, models, and CAD files. Convert drawing formats as required to meet system or customer needs. Review engineering drawings for configuration accuracy, structural integrity, and BOM alignment. Engineering Change Management: Route, track, and manage all ECNs in coordination with Engineering, PL, and Operations. Jumpstart or reengage stalled ECNs to ensure timely implementation. Write ECNs as needed to document internal changes, corrections, or improvements. Lead the Configuration Control Board (CCB) to review and approve engineering changes. ERP & BOM Data Entry: Enter and maintain clean, structured data across: Piece-part drawing entries Assembly drawing data Purchased part information BOM configurations and engineering structures Audit and verify the ERP system (DBA or similar) for alignment across drawings and build documents. ISO / AS9100 Documentation: Ensure compliance with configuration management requirements per ISO 9001:2008 and AS9100 standards. Maintain audit trails for drawing releases, ECN implementation, and database changes. Prepare documentation and support internal or external audits related to configuration control. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Engineering, Planning, Purchasing, Materials, and Quality to ensure all configuration data is accurate, timely, and accessible. Support Engineering and Production teams in toolkit drawing development and drawing-related problem solving. Propose and implement improvements to AFSI's drawing and document control processes. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to read (write and speak in English) and interpret assembly drawings from internal and customer specifications. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blue prints. Proficient in SolidWorks. Detail oriented. Strong understanding of best practices in customer service. Strong understanding of configuration management principles in a manufacturing environment. Experience managing ERP systems and document control tools. Familiarity with mechanical/electrical drawings and the ability to interpret engineering documentation. Ability to read BOM structures and identify structural and configuration errors. Solid organizational and time management skills with a focus on data accuracy. Strong attention to detail and analytical skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and AS9100 standards, especially related to configuration/document control. Strong team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Bonus Experience (Preferred): Prior experience in a Build-to-Print or Engineer-to-Order manufacturing environment—especially in military, aerospace, or harsh environment fiber optic systems. Experience with Configuration Control Boards (CCBs) and standard ECN workflows. Familiarity with PLM systems and revision control of drawings, models, and BOMs. Required Education and Experience: Associate's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience 3 - 5 years' experience in a related field U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident to satisfy AFSI ITAR requirements
