Global Head of Brokerage Operations (Finance)

Role/ Department:

Responsible for managing NTS Global Brokerage Operations, providing leadership, guidance, planning, direction and control to the brokerage operations teams. Oversees and directs activities, ensuring that resources are available to accomplish the business objectives. Develops, implements and communicates an overall strategy in collaboration with the global brokerage leadership team and regional department heads. Reports directly into COO for Capital Markets.

The position plays a critical role in global co-ordination for Global Brokerage, across both Operations and the wider business, with the ability to assess needs and synergies across regional teams with different processes, regulatory requirements and vendor relationships, driving efficiency.

The Global Head of Brokerage Ops will provide a senior layer of leadership representing Operations within the management group of Brokerage, with input on strategic initiatives, the risk and control environment, involvement in client-facing activity and broadly acting as a front-to-back global SME across the Brokerage business. This smooths the relationship between the front office and Operations, ensuring products are built and evolved to account for the full trade lifecycle, creating effective service provision for our clients and cleaner interaction with downstream NT businesses such as IOO and Custody.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Develops, implements, and communicates an overall strategy to meet both the Business Unit's and Corporation's strategic plan. Directs the activities of those areas toward accomplishing those objectives by turning strategic intent into tactical plans.
  • Focuses on building and maintaining a premier Brokerage Operations team with an elevated level of client service, in line with NT's corporate values of Service, Integrity and Expertise.
  • Maintains strong relationships with the brokerage sales, trading, and client service teams to better meet the needs of the client.
  • Promotes cross-regional co-ordination of activities and standards.
  • Drives an attitude of continuous improvement within the global team, encouraging innovation and the search for productivity gains and cost reductions.
  • Encourages an environment of employee participation, teamwork, and open communication.
  • Ensures adequate systems and controls are in place such that all functions in area of responsibility:
    • Comply with all legal and statutory requirements applicable, including but not exclusively FCA/PRA, ASIC, CSSF, FED and SEC regulations, employment legislation, health and safety and corporate governance.
    • Comply with any applicable corporate policies, local standards, and service agreements.
  • Balance the interests and requirements of clients and the bank
  • Assumes responsibility for overall risk management, including business continuity and disaster recovery, across Global Brokerage Operations
  • Sponsorship/management of projects with relevance to Global Brokerage Operations
  • Acts as the senior client-facing Operations presence for Global Brokerage, in prospective client pitches, due diligence visits, strategic initiatives or significant incidents.
  • Represents Operations on the Brokerage Risk Council, NTS LLP Management Committee and other internal governance forums.
  • Acts in accordance with the FCA conduct Rules and Northern Trust Certified Persons expectation.
  • Manages Global Brokerage Operations, including coordinating with HR regarding the following for all direct reports:
    • Performance management
    • Compensation
    • Training
  • Manages all aspects of function with due skill, care and diligence including effective controls, risk management and mitigation and delegation of activity to appropriate skilled and competent persons.
  • Develops and maintains effective senior relationships with all internal and external service providers.
  • Oversees the management and control of the cost budget for all areas of the role's scope in partnership with global practice leads and head of Capital Markets.

Skills/ Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in increasingly senior roles.
  • Experience in senior roles within a major company in the same business sector.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to articulate and develop an argument in an environment of assertive executive directors.
  • Skills in translating broad strategic intent into tactical plans and directions.
  • Knowledge of FCA regulations
  • Prior experience in a major financial services business which has seen substantial year on year growth preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience of managing large teams and a group of managers
  • The challenges faced by senior management operating within a heavily regulated environment.
  • The types of risk involved in business activities and methods for mitigating risks.
  • The challenges faced by senior management operating within regulated financial services legal entities.
  • The strategic and business issues faced by the firm and its business sector across the different regions.
  • Industry best practices for the applicable department and business line
  • The corporate and local laws and regulations that affect this business.
  • Managing profitability/performance of a major business sector

Salary Range:
$171,700 - 300,500 USD

Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
