What's the role?

Join the ZEISS Metrology Services team and help deliver precision measurement, inspection, and analysis services for our customers. As an Applications Engineer, you'll operate advanced measuring equipment and software to provide accurate, timely solutions that drive customer satisfaction and business growth. This role requires adaptability to meet project demands, including occasional shift or weekend work.

Here's what you'll do:

  • Consistently deliver complete, accurate, and on-time customer results.
  • Set up and operate all lab measurement equipment.
  • Select and use the most appropriate software for each job (e.g., Calypso, VG StudioMax).
  • Produce and deliver inspection reports in line with job requests.
  • Monitor system performance to identify and address accuracy or repeatability issues.
  • Conduct peer reviews of job results with colleagues to ensure quality.
  • Support the Site Manager with job quoting when needed.
  • Follow all safety protocols, especially regarding radiation safety.
  • Review job requirements with the Site Manager before starting each project.
  • Review results with the customer-ideally within two days of job completion.
  • Prepare, submit, and archive proof of delivery (POD) on the network drive.
  • Help improve productivity by using ZEISS productivity tools effectively (e.g., quick-change tooling and fixturing, offline programming, MCC, PiWeb).

Do you qualify?

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics; alternatively, a minimum of 2 years of experience in the metrology industry.
  • Experience with Calypso Software is preferred.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings for dimensional control requirements.
  • Skilled in operating ZEISS measuring machines, including programming using ZEISS application software, setting up and staging parts, and verifying accuracy and repeatability.
  • Strong computer skills with an aptitude for computer-aided data analysis tools.
  • Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently to resolve customer issues.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to create concise technical reports.
  • Ability to reason through and negotiate complex problems with customers.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and eagerness to contribute to a fast-growing, high-performance segment of ZEISS.

Working Conditions & Special Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to table height.
  • Flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, as required.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration across the organization.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the USA and internationally (45-70%).
