Technician I (Finance)



TransCore (TRN), a subsidiary of ST Engineering, is seeking a Maintenance Technician I to join our team in Kansas City, Kansas.

Job Summary: The Maintenance Technician I performs on-site or in-house servicing and repair of customer equipment. This job may include any aspect of field support including troubleshooting and repair of electronic equipment and wiring, configuration of component systems/firmware, including upgrades, modifications and programming; preventive maintenance actions; documentation.

Technicians support Kansas toll plaza locations and the TransCore shop facility, where work may involve on-site repairs or swapping equipment and bringing it to the shop for repair or refurbishment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Preventive and corrective maintenance of equipment including Microsoft Windows and Linux-based hardware, video surveillance and detection equipment, radar/LIDAR/magnetic detection equipment, network communications equipment, and/or fiber optic/Wi-Fi/radio equipment.
  • Repairs of electronics equipment at Kansas toll plaza locations and at the TransCore shop. Some equipment is repaired on-site, while others are exchanged for spare and repaired or refurbished in-shop.
  • Conduct monthly preventive maintenance, including cleaning and ensuring proper operation of various types of equipment.
  • Perform system diagnostics and repairs using company-provided computers, including checking functionality of toll system components and performing software or hardware adjustments.
  • Maintain accurate system inventory and documentation of equipment and repairs.
  • Respond to corrective maintenance requests or alarms within an acceptable time frame.
  • Diagnose and repair hardware, software, and system issues.
  • Report on the technical status of the system with accuracy and completeness.
  • Restore equipment to operational status as quickly as possible.
  • Module or PC board swap-out and field testing of units or components
  • Isolation of faults in units or components.
  • Maintenance of spare equipment and parts according to established guidelines.

Training and Support:
A basic knowledge of electronics and electrical systems is needed to get started in this position. Regular training and technical support will be available to help develop your knowledge and skills. The position begins with in-shop training to prepare you for fieldwork. Ongoing remote technical support will be provided once field repairs begin.

Requirements and Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) strongly preferred.
  • Must maintain driver's license in good standing as verified by Transcore.
  • Must be comfortable working at heights that could be in excess of 50 ft.
  • Familiarity with basic electrical or networking concepts is helpful.
  • Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and tools.
  • Ability to work with hand tools and small electronic components.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

The employee is occasionally required to walk and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and moving traffic.
