Position Summary:

The Paralegal & Contract Administrator (Paralegal) provide support for the Office of Clinical Affairs in the College of Nursing (CON) and working collaboratively to implement, maintain, and administer the affiliation agreement portfolio for the CON including clinical contract support activities to include: performs due diligence, reviews and prepares contracts based on templates, creates contract templates, assists with the creation and maintenance of documents as required.
Position encompasses the provision of quasi-legal services, reviewing and proofreading documents, communicating with internal and external stakeholders, coordinating multiple aspects of legal projects, and understanding and overseeing deadlines. Incumbent will work with a team or independently, be self-directed, and prioritize workload to complete tasks and projects with minimal direction to achieve accomplishments. Position will report to the Director, Academic Clinical Affairs.Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a Bachelor's degree and four years of experience legal experience involving complex and diverse legal work. A Master's degree may be substituted for two years of the required experience. A Ph.D. or J.D. may substitute for the experience. Work experience may not be substituted for the Bachelor's degree requirement for this position. A two year Associate's degree in Paralegal or Legal Assistant Studies can substitute for two years of the required experience.

SB 1310: Substitution of Work Experience for Postsecondary Education Requirements

A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required, not to exceed:

  • (a) Two years of direct experience for an associate degree;
  • (b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree;
  • (c) Six years of direct experience for a master's degree;
  • (d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or
  • (e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree

Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment.

Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.

Preferred Qualifications: Graduate from an American Bar Association (ABA) approved or institutionally-accredited paralegal program that includes at least 60 semester credits.
Exceptional communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
Exceptional attention to detail.
Proficiency with the use of standard desktop applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams with the ability to quickly learn new software applications.
Excellent document management and proofreading skills along with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail with document review, templates and forms.Working at USF

Provide strategic data to senior CON and OGC leadership through reports as requested. Build relationships with internal teams, and key members of the CON communities of interest that help expand clinical placement opportunities.

35% Review and revise affiliation agreements in accordance with OGC, CON, USF Health, and University standards. Assist with timely renewal of existing affiliation agreements. Research contract issues and prepare analysis for presentation to executive leadership. Provide regular updates of key contract deadlines, auto-renewals, and projected expirations. Advise senior CON leadership when contract language changes that may require consultation with the OGC.

15% Liaison with the OGC as needed. Maintain awareness of local, state, and national regulatory and policy changes impacting nursing practice which may impact CON and USF operations. Prepare clinical placement data reports at the end of each academic term, annually, and ad hoc. Communicate effectively across the CON and externally.

10% Carry out assignments and special projects as delegated by the CON vice dean. Represent senior CON leadership, as needed. Serve as a role model in ethical decision-making, cultural sensitivity, responsible management, and courageous leadership for students through all actions and communications. Strive to foster and maintain a workplace climate that is supportive of all employees and respectful of diversity as well as to create a learning environment for students that encourages personal development, self-reflection, and academic success.
