Senior Director, Safety (Project Management)

What will your job look like?

The Senior Director, Safety supports MTM Transit's mission by leading the development and delivery of safety protocols, fostering a safety culture across MTM Transits' multi-state workforce.

This will be accomplished by:

  • Ensuring all locations and employees are being trained consistently, and in accordance with both State and Federal regulations, as well as any contract specific requirements
  • Ensuring that the organization is compliant with all required federal and state processes and programs such as drug and alcohol testing
  • Reporting and data analytics to include root cause analysis and creative solutions
  • Audit, analysis and the creation of strategy at the corporate and division level
  • Ensure that safety remains a top priority by regularly updating practices and protocols

Location: Hybrid-Remote in the U.S. The Ideal candidate is located in the Central Region of the U.S.

This position requires travel, 50%+ of the time, within the U.S.

What you'll do:

  • Serve as corporate owner for the development and implementation of standard operations procedures (SOP's) for all site specific and organization safety training and regulations
  • Provide daily guidance and leadership to direct reports and the Safety staff, located throughout the organization
  • Oversee the creation and delivery of safety videos, manuals, polices, procedures, and programs, both site specific and at the corporate level
  • Work collaboratively with Transit and Operations Leadership to ensure safety initiatives and cultural expectations are being met, including the Safety Program's goals, objectives and short and long-term strategies
  • Conduct comprehensive analysis to determine need, project scope and best training methodology to ensure that safety training fulfills the needs and objectives of each location, as well as the company
  • Oversee annual audits of both employee safety training files as well as site safety evaluations
  • Provide safety metrics and reporting, to be presented on a monthly and quarterly basis
  • Oversee the management of classroom and behind the wheel instruction according to corporate and client specifications in all aspects of vehicle operation in the course of passenger transportation, including defensive driving, service area familiarization, passenger loading, unloading and securement, proper manifest documentation, use of on-board equipment, accident and emergency procedures, dispatch and radio communications, and passenger sensitivity
  • Oversee the management of Corporate Safety Incentives and programs, which includes, but is not limited to: assignment of safety points, random audits of employee safety performance vs point system, recognition of high performers, and effectiveness of safety program
  • Oversee the development and monthly ongoing/refresher training in problematic topics relevant to the service and service area
  • Conduct, with the partnership of HR and the local safety staff, the investigation of vehicle accidents, occupational injuries and make recommendations regarding cause, preventability and retraining
  • Collaborate with corporate Marketing to ensure all training program material and resources are consistent, professional and easily accessible, organization wide
  • Ensure and oversee that all new implementations have an all-encompassing safety training plan for all new employees that includes start up for leaders, internal staff and external stakeholders
  • Seek out new and more effective training techniques, suggest and lead enhancements to existing safety training programs
  • Oversee the update of training materials to ensure instructional integrity
  • Oversee the selection, training and hiring of all safety positions
  • Other duties as assigned

What you'll need:

Experience, Education & Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • 10+ years of transit/ paratransit safety management experience or related experience
  • 8 + years' professional facilitation experience in safety training role
  • 5+ years of management experience
  • Must possess a valid driver's license

  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to acquire and maintain strong knowledge of service/products that MTM Transit offers, protocols, policies and procedures
  • Ability to prioritize assigned projects, incidents, and requests
  • Strong communication skills, including presentations
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management
  • Strong planning and organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage changing priorities, handle multiple projects, meet deadlines and adapt to a changing business environment

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office software applications with advanced skills in Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Ability to interpret a variety of documents such as technical data, operating instructions and policy/procedure manuals
  • Ability to recognize safety improvement opportunities and gaps and clearly identify and articulate options and tools available to help drive desired behavior
  • Ability to effectively delegate tasks and provide appropriate supervision and follow up to department staff

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred

Salary Min: $127,280

Salary Max: $190,920
