Sr. Environmental Health & Safety Specialist -- 1st Shift (Biotech)

JOB SUMMARY

The Sr EHS Specialist is responsible for coordinating, implementing, improving and verifying programs that support our environmental, health and safety systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 

  • Safety and Regulatory Compliance:
    • Develop, adopt, and implement safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with Jabil standards, OSHA standards, local, state, and national regulations.
    • Identify hazards and recommend corrective or preventative measures to ensure a safe work environment.
    • Lead initiatives to reduce recordable injuries and improve safety performance by monitoring safe systems of work and current safe operating procedures.
    • Facilitate, drive, and participate in Change Management, including pre-start-up safety reviews and equipment walk-downs to identify safety concerns and conduct health and safety audits. This also includes plant modifications, safety input for design and construction of new equipment.
    • Conduct process HAZOPs and risk assessments and ensure that existing risk assessments are regularly updated.
    • Perform gap analyses and internal audits based on Jabil Global EHS policy and international standards (e.g., ISO9001).
    • Support sites and corporate functions during international standard certification audits, including audits by Jabil registrar or customer standards.
    • Use enterprise systems to initiate, track, close, and measure the effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions from internal and external audits.

  • Training & Development:
    • Create and validate training curricula in areas of responsibility, ensuring they align with safety policies.
    • Assess training needs in conjunction with the Regional EHS Manager and Operations Manager, select suitable providers, and deliver training to personnel and contractors as needed.
    • Ensure the timely delivery of mandatory regulatory health and safety training within legal timeframes.
    • Ensure a sufficient number of staff are trained as the Emergency Response Team.
    • Monitor the systems for ensuring fire precautions and emergency response procedures are adequate.

  • Emergency Response & Safety Systems:
    • Develop and maintain emergency response plans and ensure that fire protection systems are effective alongside the Facilities maintenance technician.
    • Coordinate and ensure that mandatory drills are completed annually.
    • Promote safety culture, awareness, and behaviors through staff communication sessions and employee engagement forums.

  • Policy Development & Implementation:
    • Develop and update the site safety statement and policy in partnership with plant management.
    • Ensure all employees are trained on all safety statements and policies during orientation. As well as communicating and reiterating safety statements and safety policies throughout the site as needed.

  • Leadership & Mentorship:
    • Lead and coach the functional teams, including facilities staff, to ensure they deliver excellence to both internal and external customers.
    • Support the review and assessment of site modifications and provide technical safety input.
    • Drive continuous improvement efforts through trend reporting, analysis, and cost-conscious management.
    • Actively promote and increase awareness of safe work practices, both for the company staff and contractors.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

   
JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent experience, Environmental Health and Safety, or a related discipline is required.

Experience:  

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant Health/Safety experience within manufacturing or a related industry, or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:  

  • Essential Skills:
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and presentation skills.
    • Ability to interpret and apply relevant safety legislation and regulatory compliance procedures.
    • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, employees, or other stakeholders.
    • Self-starter with demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization and third parties.
    • Proficiency in MS Office and other relevant software tools.
  • Desirable Skills:
    • Knowledge of Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) or Forklift Training.
    • Experience monitoring hazardous substances/waste and SWPPP compliance.

The pay range for this role is $83,400 - $150,200. Job-related, non-discriminatory factors used to determine the actual offered rate include qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data, and consideration of internal equity.

As part of the total rewards package, this position is eligible for a short-term incentive based on performance. In addition, Jabil offers benefits to enhance your health, wealth, and resilient self.
