OPS Licensed Practical Nurse (Finance)



This position typically reports to a Registered Nurse, Registered Nurse Manager, Nurse Practitioner, Physician, or other nursing/medical administrator in the medical clinic, student health services, hospital, or other medical setting, including a mobile outreach unit. A Licensed Practical Nurse may be assigned to a general clinic or specialty clinic, such as a women's clinic that provides Gynecological services, a Neurological clinic, an urgent care unit, a mobile care unit, or other clinic. A Licensed Practical Nurse uses a variety of medical equipment, such as sphygmomanometers, stethoscopes, needles/syringes, thermometers, EKG machines, AED, Hemoques, Otoscopes, IV catheters, Nebulizers, and cardiac monitors. Employees in this non-exempt position should be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. A Licensed Practical Nurse must have the ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in written, verbal, diagram or schedule form, maintain and interpret records and reports, and be able to act quickly and calmly in emergency situations.This position requires licensure as a practical nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes, or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Chapter 64 B9, Florida Administrative Code.Working at USF

  • Assists physician or nurse practitioner with diagnostic tests, physical examinations, and special procedures and/or minor surgeries, such as colposcopy, biopsy, and cryotherapy. Sets up room and positions patients for lumbar punctures and for administering certain medications.
  • Administers prescribed medications (oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, topical and intradermal) and initiates inravenous therapy to replace body fluids as ordered by physician or nurse practitioner. Performs other duties as covered under the LPN Practice Act and directed by physician.
  • Reviews medical records to assure completeness and follow-through with regard to previously ordered tests and reports.
  • Oversees scheduling issues, such as changes, cancellations, or scheduling hospital or outpatient procedures.
  • Triage phone messages and take appropriate action according to established protocols.
  • Complete prescription refills according to written protocols or verbal/written order of the provider.
  • May coordinate the direct patient care workloads and schedules of other medical personnel.
  • May perform initial assessments of Acute Care patients utilizing Subjective, Objective Assessment Planning (SOAP) format and documents relevant information in patient records.
  • Prepares rooms for use; collects routine specimens; takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
  • Provides screening and basic education on topics applicable to the visit.
  • Sends monthly letters to patients who require follow-up care as designated by physician/practitioner.
