Field Service Supervisor (Manufacturing)



Position Summary:                                     Serves as functional manager to Technicians, Technician Crew Leads, and Site Leads including monitoring performance, coaching, and supporting their career development. Serves as project manager for a set of projects including planning, executing, and commercial settlement. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Functional Management of Technicians, Technician Crew Leads, and Site Leads

  • Monitor performance, mentor, coach, and support the development of Technicians, Technician Crew Leads, and Site Leads
  • Ensure direct reports complete mandatory trainings
  • Ensure direct reports comply with Time & Expense and Vehicle Use policies
  • Document and hold discussions around corrective actions as needed
  • Complete annual reviews for direct reports
  • Review and approve PTO for direct reports in coordination with Field Service Manager resource scheduling

Project Management

  • Review new project awards from Sales and hold kick off meeting to ensure we are prepared to mobilize with the necessary resources(people, tools, material, equipment, etc.) in cooperation with the Field Service Managers
  • Ensure Tech Crew Leads and Site Leads are documenting hours, scope, and progress accurately each day for assigned projects
  • Order materials, equipment, supplies - coordinate moving of resources with FSMs and procurement with as much notice as possible
  • Communicate project staffing needs - coordinate increases or decreases with FSMs with as much notice as possible
  • Communicate changes in scope or working conditions to customer PM to justify change orders
  • Monitor spend and request PO increases from customers as spend approaches PO value

Data Entry and Approvals

  • Daily ADP time approvals for functionally assigned technicians
  • Monthly Concur expense approvals for functionally assigned technicians
  • Daily GE POD uploads for assigned projects
  • Daily Leading Edge time entry and tier 1 approval – ownership of Site Management & Planning section for assigned projects
  • Monthly or as needed Leading Edge PTO entry for direct reports

Other Duties

  • Provide technical expertise and assist with special projects as needed (ex. Support the development of new repair procedures or oversee first time evolution in the field)

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises and evaluates assigned field service Technicians, Technician Crew Leads, and Site Leads. Responsible for the direction, and coordination of the field service teams at assigned site(s). Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education/ Skills/ Experience:
  • Two-year degree in engineering, management, business, or a related area and 3 years of wind blade repair and maintenance field service experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to safety best practices in wind turbine blade access and composite repair work
  • Knowledge of the means and methods of composite repairs and the ability to ensure individuals under supervision are following best practices and full compliance with work instructions
  • Ability to utilize resources efficiently – keeping people productive, minimizing wasted materials, equipment, and other costs
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and time management skills
  • Wind farm experience preferred
  • Demonstrated project and team management skills
  • Organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail and ability to effectively handle multiple projects  
  • Ability to build and develop relationships with customers
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to work in a team environment
  • Good verbal and written communications skills and be ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Effective listening skills and ability to extract necessary information and validate understanding of the information and act accordingly 
  • This is a remote / work-from-home role with travel required to sites as needed (expected to average 20% of the time or less)
  • Must have a valid US driver's license and driving record meeting company standards.

     

Skill Requirements: 

Language Skills                                              

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively with customers and TPI employees.

Mathematical Skills                                                    

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability                                           

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills                                              

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Inventory software; Field Service software; Project Management software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
