SUMMARY

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Coordinates and confers with supervisors and other management personnel to formulate safety policies and procedures in compliance with company policy and regulatory requirements. 

Coordinates and confers with personnel in the execution of company safety related activities, including ensuring enforcement of safety regulations and compliance with governmental regulations regarding proper handling and transporting of hazardous materials. Enforces compliance of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, including handling of driver's logs. Knowledge of OSHA and DOT and EPA regulations.

Works with supervisors to help analyze work requirements and work conditions to propose and implement changes to increase safety, while still maintaining efficiency and effectiveness. 

Maintains written health, safety, security and environmental (HSSE) procedures, records, and files, including training, testing, and driver qualification files.  Audits safety records maintained by operations personnel.  Maintains the Driver Safety Awards Program.  Maintains the Safe Worker Program.  Maintains accident statistics and records, including on-job-injury incidents, vehicular accidents, and cargo damage.

Provides training either personally or with outside assistance.  Inspects or tours company facilities, either personally or with outside assistance to evaluation or detect existing or potential hazards, and recommend corrective or preventative measures where indicated.

Manages and processes cargo claims in compliance with company policy and regulatory requirements. Cargo claims are an unfortunate part of this business and this job mitigates risks and ensures accuracy while advocating for the customer and the Company. Manages up to 4 direct reports across the USA and Canada. Some travel required.

Provide operational or administrative support services to operations as needed.  May assist in special projects as requested

Records, traces, and enters information on company computer system as required.  Makes inquiries from computer system.  Operates various business machines.  Maintains details of business transactions or other records as required. Answers telephones and gives information to callers.

Dependable and consistent attendance required.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Bachelor's degree (B.A.) with emphasis on business management or transportation studies from a four-year college or university; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as hazardous materials shipping regulations, HSSE regulations,  to comply with ground, air, and water carrier standards, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability present information and respond to questions from managers, customers and the general public.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, co-workers, and customers quickly and effectively. 

Ability to apply mathematical, financial and statistical concepts such as used in cost analysis and operations modeling.  Examples include the application of basic concepts such as applications of fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, and density.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and recommend appropriate solutions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Ability to work well with others.

Position requires ability to write, use keyboard efficiently.  Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Must be able to conduct telephone communication for extended periods.  Must be able to sit, stand or walk for extended periods.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Identification or passport valid for travel needed for travel to Canada, Alaska, and the lower 48 States.
  • Valid Driver License and good driving record preferred.
