Academic Advisor for Degree Completion (Finance)



This position specializes in academic student support and serves as an academic advisor for students in the Degree Completion program. This position is responsible for coordinating, scheduling, and disseminating information to the students in a timely and professional manner. Other responsibilities include assisting individual students during their undergraduate experience, focusing on retention and student satisfaction activities, such as developing clear academic plans, effective and efficient communication strategies, acting as a resource and referral for student questions and overseeing the application for degree process.

Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in related field required
2. Two years' experience in an educational office environment with knowledge of academic programs and policies preferred
3. Knowledge of and experience in handling official student records and academic advising
4. Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
5. Knowledge of California Community College system preferred (including but not limited to catalog information course descriptions, registration dates and policies, transferability of courses, and other information pertinent to the transfer of courses)
6. Proficient in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, etc.)
7. Proficient in institutional integrated database applications and/or willingness and aptitude to learn other data management programs adopted by the University as needed
8. Must be able to work effectively with others in a complex administrative environment
9. Ability to manage a complex communication and degree audit process

Essential Functions:
1. Serve as academic advisor for all current Degree Completion students for all academic policies, catalogue rights, regulation and other guidelines governing the fulfillment of their degree programs
2. Create reports and monitor success of Degree Completion students
3. Partner with community colleges to ensure a seamless transition for students
4. Maintain student records as necessary for retention and registration
5. Assist students in problem-solving for academic concerns and serve as a referral source to other available student support services
6. Know and understand Simpson University-specific Registrar policies (including, but not limited to, graduation requirements, course descriptions, transcript evaluations, catalog information, and other processes pertinent to completion of degree requirements)
7. Provide academic accountability for students placed on academic warning, probation, or provisional status
8. Assist students in completing all required GE credits through the ongoing evaluation of courses and transcripts
9. Oversee the application for degree process, including performing degree audits
10. Oversee student exit interview process
11. Collaborate with Registrar's Office as necessary
12. Effectively communicate with students any important changes or announcements
13. Help Coordinate student events, such as Alpha Sigma Lambda Induction, Orientation, and Graduation
14. Other Duties as assigned by the Director of Degree Completion
