GIS/GPS Technician (Finance)



POSITION SUMMARY : Entry level position. Performs field location and data entry related to the development of spatial and tabular GIS data. Supports the technical and professional efforts of the GIS Analysts and management staff of the GIS group. Performs non-routine assignments of substantial variety and some complexity. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy.

RESPONSIBILITIES : This position is responsible for the creation of geographic information data, the gathering and processing of Global Positioning System field data, data entry through spreadsheet or database software, and map production. Must be familiar with ESRI's ArcGIS software platform. Possesses the capability to create and print maps that meet basic cartographic design specifications. Possesses the capability to use Microsoft Excel and Access for data entry purposes. Data will be entered from technical documents such as survey field books, engineering blueprints, Record and As-Built drawings, and paper maps. Will also need to be able to capture GPS data utilizing the latest GPS hardware and software technology.

DECISION MAKING : Receives instructions on specific assignment objectives, complex features, and possible solutions. Assistance is furnished on unusual problems and work is reviewed for application of sound professional judgment.

INTERACTION : F requent technical interaction with other GIS staff, other internal personnel, and clients. Performs technical related work of assigned projects under direct supervision of the GIS Management and Analyst Staff.

EDUCATION/SKILLS : An Associate's degree or equivalent coursework in Geography, Geomatics, GIS, Computer Science, or a related field and/or equivalent direct GIS experience of 1-2 years is required (Internships are acceptable). Valid driver's license and computer literacy required. Ability to work with others and good communication skills required. Continuing education is encouraged for technical-supervisory development.

WORK ENVIRONMENT : Outdoor environment with frequent travel to job sites. Occasional office environment for data entry.Inframark is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
