Lead Data Engineer (Architecture)



The Lead Data Engineer in Dodgeville, WI will be responsible for leading the development of the company's new data processing and analytics platform while providing support to our partner teams throughout the organization. The Lead Data Engineer will support data scientists/analysts and other engineering teams on data initiatives to ensure that optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects. The specific responsibilities for this role will include: Lead and provide direction, vision, and management to the Data Engineering team; Develop and maintain a microservice based data platform; Act as a technical subject matter expert for other engineering and analytic staff through trainings, fielding questions and code reviews; Share knowledge and mentor other staff members within the team and department; Help coordinate cross functionality initiatives with multiple teams across the company; Build self-service pipelines and tooling for analysts, data scientists and other business users to publish analytics, reports and data science models; Assemble large, complex data sets that meet business requirements; Identify, design and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for scalability, maintainability and sustainability; Lead the effort in migrating and automating legacy processes from (but not limited to) SAS, Scala, Excel/VBA environments; Ensure high-quality, reliable, resilient and scalable processes and data through thorough automated testing; Build the infrastructure required for optimal ELT, analysis and surfacing of data from a wide variety of data sources; Build analytic tooling to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics; and Keep systems in compliance with an ever-changing regulatory landscape. Incumbent may telecommute from anywhere within the United States.

 

Required: Bachelor's in Computer Science or closely related field (or foreign equivalent). Plus at least five (5) years of prior experience in a Data or Software Engineering role. Such experience must include:

  • Strong Python knowledge;
  • Experience with numerous AWS offerings and networking/security tools with a strong understanding of the underlying technologies (EC2, EKS/ECS, EMR, S3, Glue, SQS/SNS, IAM/VPC, API Gateway, Lambda, etc.);
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience with a variety of relational databases;
  • Schedulers and orchestrators (Airflow or NiFi);
  • CI/CD pipelines and tooling (Jenkins or Bamboo);
  • Apache Spark/MapReduce; and
  • Infrastructure as code tooling (Terraform or Cloudformation)
