Shipping Team Lead (Manufacturing)



ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school education and some business courses.
  • Working knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing programs.
  • Competent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to read and write English.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative and Business Skills:

  • Create proper shipping documents for daily shipments. Such documents should include bills of lading, packing lists, and pick lists
  • Preparation and supply of all required transport documents including, pro forma invoice, certificate of origin, FAFTA certificate, shipper's letters of instruction and customs documents.
  • Generate on-time delivery schedule and daily schedule every morning.
  • Manage contract drivers for effective utilization while providing delivery and pickup services.
  • Coordinate equipment for delivery and pickup service requirements.
  • Facilitate material movements between Goshen and Topeka production facilities.
  • Planning and coordinating the storage of raw materials working with Inventory Control.
  • UPS/FED EX
    • Generate a daily pick list for shipping, gathering information from shipping office.
    • Ensure information is correct by verifying shipping address, sales order number and quantity to be shipped.
    • Retrieve material from departments for shipment if needed.
  • Contact LTL carriers for daily shipments.
  • Process all change orders and one step orders.
  • Organize all shipping request forms.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counting for all finished goods programs.
  • Perform all ERP related tasks required to ship freight including all end of day tasks and checklists.

Technical Skills:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of all systems associated with shipping.
  • Participate in training sessions, as opportunities present themselves.
  • Assist with loading of all shipments.
  • Learn the procedures of the receiving area and be willing to perform such duties.
  • Forklift operation certification meeting OSHA regulations.

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Demonstrate appropriate internal and external customer-supplier relation skills.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills with internal and external customers.
  • Inform Plant Manager of all order changes.
  • Perform other duties as instructed by Department Manager.

  • Physical demands: This job position requires the physical ability to continuously lift 35-45 pounds and occasionally lift 75 pounds. It also requires bending over to pick up items and working in a standing position for the entire an 8-hour (occasionally 9-10 hours) shift schedule. Must be able to successfully complete the Wieland Designs Forklift Operator Training and Certification. 
  • Work environment: Must be able to successfully complete the Wieland Designs Forklift Operator Training and Certification. Read English and confirm on shipping and receiving documents to verify proper quantities and specification.

POSITION STATEMENT:

The Shipping Team Leader will be responsible for the coordination of all shipping activity. The Shipping Team Leader proactively collaborates with supplier, freight brokers and other third parties as well as internal departments especially customer service and production personnel.  The Shipping Team Leader will provide the necessary organization to ensure that all shipments are completed efficiently and successfully.
