Dir Univ Event Strat & Policy (Finance)



Organizational Summary:

The University of South Florida Police Department (USFPD) is a full-service law enforcement agency dedicated to providing a safe environment for and in partnership with the community, while remaining committed to assisting with personal and professional development of department members, and to the principle of being community minded and service driven.

USFPD is organized into various bureaus, divisions, sections, squads, and units. The department is led by a command staff comprised of sworn and non-sworn members of the rank of lieutenant and higher, a communications and records manager, all of whom report to the assistant chief of police through an established chain-of-command. The Operations Bureau is commanded by a captain who oversees the Patrol Section which is commanded by a lieutenant. The Patrol Division is further broken down into four patrol squads and one Community Service Officer (CSO) squad which is supervised by two non-sworn supervisors.

The Special Operations Division is commanded by a captain who oversees Special Operations/Events and Criminal Investigations Sections; both of which are led by a sergeant. The Administration Bureau is also commanded by a captain who oversees the Support Services and Communications & Records Divisions. Support Services is led by a sergeant and includes the Professional Standards and Information Technology Sections. The accreditation, training and background investigation units fall within the Professional Standards Section which is managed by a sergeant. The Communications & Records Division reports to a non-sworn manager.

Position Summary:

The Director of University Event Strategy and Policy is a senior-level position responsible for developing and implementing event strategies and policies at a university. They oversee the planning, organization, and execution of various events, including conferences, seminars, fundraisers, and campus-wide celebrations. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, and external partners, to ensure that events align with the university's mission and goals. The Director also establishes policies and guidelines to ensure the efficient and effective management of events, including budgeting, logistics, marketing, and risk management. They may supervise a team of event coordinators and work closely with other departments to coordinate resources and support for successful events.Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and minimum of seven (7) years related experience. A minimum of three (3) years managerial experience.

FLSB1310 Equivalency: 4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree. 6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master's degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in developing and implementing strategic event frameworks that align with institutional goals.

  • Strong understanding of event-related policies, budgeting, contract negotiation, risk management, and compliance standards.
  • \n
  • Proficiency with event management software, project management tools, and other relevant technology platforms.

  • Develop and implement a university-wide event strategy that aligns with institutional goals and enhances the university's reputation. This includes regular review to ensure policies align with university goals and state requirements. Analyze event trends and data to inform strategy and decision-making.

  • Collaborate with event stakeholders to ensure consistency in approach, visibility, and ONEUSF strategy
  • \n

Program Development, Training, and Oversight:
\n
    \n
  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive policies and procedures for university events to ensure consistency, compliance, and best practices.
  • \n
  • Ensure all events comply with university policies, local regulations, and safety standards. Regularly review and update event policies to reflect changes in regulations and best practices.
  • \n
  • Develop and provide training on university policies and strategies for successful activities, including event requestors and enforcement audiences. This includes but is not limited to the Event Support Team, Housing and Residential Education, Building Managers for all administrative and academic facilities on the USF campus, Athletics staff, and all designated police personnel, including Community Service Officers.

Event Management and Coordination:
\n
    \n
  • Coordinate with internal departments and external partners to ensure the successful execution of events.
  • \n
  • Ensure use of university space is in alignment with associated policies and procedures.
  • \n
\n
Evaluation and Reporting:
\n
    \n
  • Conduct post-event evaluations to assess outcomes, gather feedback, and identify areas for improvement.
  • \n
  • Prepare detailed event reports, including analysis of attendee feedback, financial performance, and overall success.
  • \n
  • Use evaluation data to inform future event planning and strategy.
  • \n
  • Provide a weekly report of events on campus that informs key partners on campus abreast of possible activities and need for increased monitoring and visibility.

Stakeholder Engagement:
\n
    \n
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, and community partners.
  • \n
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for activities and event requests in all areas except for spaces managed by the Marshall Student Center.
  • \n
  • Foster collaboration and communication among event stakeholders which includes but is not limited to the Event Support Team leadership.
  • \n

Team Leadership and Development:
\n
    \n
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment.
  • \n
  • Ensure compliance with university policies and best practices in event management. Lead staff associated with the processes of requests, activities review, and policy guidance/enforcement.
  • \n
  • Lead in utilizing Community Service officers and ensuring training is adequate to provide regular monitoring and coverage of campus activities during and after university business hours.
