JOB SUMMARY

The R&D Seasonal Winery Worker assists to facilitate all operations in the Winemaking Research Experiment Center (WREC), based at Woodbridge Winery in Acampo, Ca. This is a temporary position for the duration of the harvest season, extending from July through November. The position provides an average of 40 hours per week, with some overtime being available in September and October.

This is a highly physical position requiring lifting, reaching, bending, and standing for long periods of time. The position follows standard work methods and practices safe work habits to ensure operations are as efficient and safe as possible.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Under moderate supervision, perform cellar operation for our research winery.
  • Operations include (but are not limited to): sampling grapes, harvesting, crush and press operations, punch-downs, wine movements, cleaning, and sanitizing.
  • Use scales and measuring tools to prepare additions to wines.
  • Track sugars and take samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Track and record other data.
  • Operate winery equipment including: crush equipment, presses, pumps, filters, jacks, carts, etc.
  • Occasional field work.
  • Loading and unloading vehicles.
  • Cleaning floors and surfaces.
  • Understand and be an active participant in the 7s program. (sort, set in order, standardize, sweep, sustain, safety, and stop).
  • Responsible for compliance with CBI sustainability policies and practices which are economically viable, socially acceptable, and environmentally sound. This is done by supporting programs at each location for conservation, energy efficiency, and recycling, which are critical for our operations to achieve tangible environmental results.
  • Follow safe operating procedures, support safety programs and policies to safeguard personal safety, company property, environmental and team member's safety.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Must be able to read and communicate clearly.
  • Must be able to work various shifts and overtime as needed.
  • Must be able to operate machinery including power washer and steamer.
  • Must know how to use hand tools.
  • Must possess basic math skills and knowledge of metric system.
  • Must be able to use meters, scales and measuring tools.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, lift, and push.
  • Must be able to move up to 55 lbs.
  • Use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms.
  • Climb or balance stairs/ladders.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear.
  • Must have close vision, distant vision, and ability to adjust focus, peripheral vision.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to drive a car and travel via plan/train as needed.
  • Works outdoors/indoors.
  • Works in warm/cold climates.
  • Works on wet surfaces.
  • Exposure to dust.
  • Is exposed to loud noise, fumes, and/or toxic chemicals.
  • Works near moving, mechanical parts and lift truck traffic.

 

COMPENSATION

  • Hourly Pay Range Posted: $19.00 - $29.50/hr.
  • Actual compensation will be based on factors such as experience; skills, knowledge, and abilities; education; and other position related factors.
