Engineering Supervisor - Substation (Project Management)
SUMMARY:
Provide supervisory and engineering/technical support to a substation electrical engineering and design team for the purpose of delivering safe, cost-effective, and quality engineering and design services. Incumbents will supervise direct reports including engineers and designers, CAD technicians and administrative personnel. This role includes both direct billable client work (project work) and administrative leadership support to the manager or director. The incumbent is expected to lead projects, perform responsible charge engineering duties, manage project schedules along with managing specific engineering and design business revenue and profitability goals. Personnel responsibilities include carrying out such programs as training, performance appraisal, employee recruiting, succession planning and adherence to standards of conduct. Provide technical competency and direction on complex engineering and technical problems in the specific area of expertise for the management of engineering projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide supervisory and engineering/technical leadership to a skilled, qualified, and motivated engineering and design team by:
Perform project management activities on assigned client projects along with Responsible Charge Engineering duties (i.e. Sealing Designs).
Ensure that cost and utilization goals are met by effective planning, organizing, scheduling and monitoring of work activities.
Provide technical leadership to ensure that all specific engineering designs are provided per applicable professional codes and standards by:
Manage customer relations and enhance Pike Engineering reputation.
Administer and ensure adherence to Pike Engineering corporate safety policies.
Carry out administrative duties in accordance with company policy.
Assist in recruiting efforts, business development and strategic planning.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Complex; established procedures not available. Major decision making.
RELATIONSHIP OUTSIDE WORK GROUP:
Influences decisions of major nature. High degree of tact and diplomacy to obtain favorable decisions or maintain good will.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage a team of substation engineering and design professionals with direct supervisory responsibility.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Required A Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or University in Electrical or Civil Engineering (with a preference for Electrical Engineering) and experience equivalent to 7+ years in Engineering practice.
Required Engineering Degree awarded from a College of University that is accredited by ABET
Experience
5-7 Year(s) Experience in Substation Engineering
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Professional Engineer (P.E.) and an NCEES record
ON-THE-JOB TRAINING:
Significant experience at a professional level in electrical power system engineering related to designing utility transmission and distribution substations.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
A. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
B. Ability to write reports, Business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
C. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or the business community
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
A. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry.
B. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry.
C. Ability to compute rate, ratios, and percent and to draw and interpret spreadsheets
REASONING ABILITY:
A. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
B. Ability to define problems collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
