Communications Specialist (Hybrid) (Finance)

Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to combine a passion for writing with a love of science in an engaging and creative fashion. As a Staff Writer in the Illumina Corporate Communications team, you'll collaborate across our global business and with subject matter experts to develop compelling campaign messaging and strategies to drive employee awareness, engagement and pride in the Illumina brand.

This is a great role for candidates who are recent graduates or have a few years work experience and want to expand their corporate communication skills. Our candidate will have a meticulous attention to detail, work well under pressure and is energized by a fast-paced environment.

*This person must be able to commute to our San Diego HQ 3 days/week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create compelling stories that translate scientific breakthroughs into clear progression of our corporate strategy
  • Write attention-grabbing titles and subheads
  • Write hero-focused and product-based video scripts that support multiple topics, including customer interviews, how to videos, introductory videos, story videos
  • Extend brand and omni-channel storytelling through a broader lens across ecosystems, business goals, and platforms
  • Develops, executes, and oversees plans for corporate, regional, local, and department-specific communications, events, etc.
  • Reviews and edits communications prior to dissemination to ensure accuracy, clarity, and appropriateness
  • Work with key role-players to brainstorm content ideas, in line with the company's strategy and in support of various brand initiatives
  • Develops, launches and grows adoption of new integrated communication processes
  • Provides communication counsel to organizational partners and leaders on planning, development and execution of effective communications, presentations, and speaking engagements.
  • Coordinates communication efforts with those provided by others who focus on external communications (e.g., public relations, social media)
  • Assists with the development and implementation of new and existing communication vehicles - including all hands meeting logistics

You Bring:

  • Communication skills, including the ability to identify key messages, tailor content to specific audiences, and design creative effective content to meet communication goals
  • Ability to think big and solve problems with practical solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills and an attention to detail
  • Great judgment in selecting methods and techniques for driving employee engagement and awareness
  • Highly computer literate with capability in email, MS Office and related business and communication tools
  • Knowledge and interest of communications trends

Experience/Education:

  • Minimum of two years of employee/organizational communication, PR, or marketing communications experience
  • Related experience with a bachelor's degree; or two years and a master's degree

The estimated base salary range for the Communications Specialist (Hybrid) role based in the United States of America is: $67,000 - $100,600. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual's qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
